How to be better at navigating intercultural communication!
by Lynne Murphy (Shimane University Faculty of Medicine, Assistant Professor)
Would you like to know more about the influence of cultural factors? Are you keen to be better at navigating intercultural communication? If so, this presentation is for you! With a 20+ year-long career as an educator, interculturalist, and Japanese language connoisseur, Lynne has navigated many intercultural communicative situations. “Communication of the intercultural kind is interesting because unique observations and alternative insights are more likely. However, ‘interesting’ can quickly become ‘challenging’ when participants are not sufficiently knowledgeable about the influence of cultural factors.” From resources such as The Culture Map and The Culture Factor, you will learn about contrasting value and behavioral dimensions across cultures, and about their impact on our intercultural communication.
