Do your students enjoy revision? Do they see it as part of the creative process or something to do before writing “The End”? How about yourself as a writer? In this presentation, I will give a book talk about Barry Lane’s “After The End”, a practical guide for teaching revision to novice writers. Lane is a professional writer in the US recognized for his dynamic, hands-on conferences and workshops on writing. One of his most popular ideas we will look at is learning how to transform a piece of freewriting into a usable lead. Though most of the activities focus on fiction and personal narrative, I will share what has worked in my academic writing classrooms. I will also introduce a number of other books that have changed the way I approach writing both professionally and personally.
