Event Report, Tottori Chapter February 2020

On February 9th, 2020, our first event of the year was held. It was a new kind of event where children of our community joined us to enjoy learning English. Three guest teachers, Ms. Naomi Kakisaka, Ms. Junko Akaboshi, and Mr. Taichi Tanaka, shared with us helpful and practical activities to make lessons more enjoyable. The event was held in Rooms C, D, and E of the Koho Center at Tottori University.

At the beginning, Naho Iwata gave greetings and an explanation of the event. Junko Nakashima introduced the guest teachers to all. Then, children were divided into three small groups, and they moved from one room to another, taking lessons. Each lesson lasted 30 minutes, and there were 10-minute breaks in-between. The children collected stamps from every teacher on their “passport” at the end of the lessons. Seven of the Tottori JALT officers participated in the event and served as assistant to the teachers in class.

The children, even the little ones, were interested and actively participated in the lessons. Parents enjoyed observing the lessons in the classroom, and so did some educators who were interested in activities for primary school children.
