Multilingual Café: Asako Palmu – Finnish language – Is it really so difficult?
September 24, 2025 @ 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
The Finnish language (Suomi in Finnish), is the official language of Finland. It is an Uralic language, not Indo-European like most European languages, which makes it very different in structure and vocabulary from languages like English, French, or German. Finnish is known for its complex grammar. It has for example 15 grammatical cases which replace many prepositions.Finnish is often considered challenging due to this case system, but also because of long words and unfamiliar vocabulary. But Finnish is also very logical and consistent in its rules.
In the session I will introduce some basic Finnish grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. I will also tell a little bit about the country and the culture.
The presentation will be in English and will be held online.
