September Event in Gifu

September 20, 2025 @ 6:00 PM 8:00 PM

A two-part workshop for educators in Junior High School & Senior High School Settings
  1. Tsubasa Goto (Godo Junior High School)
Tsubasa Goto is a junior high school teacher at Godo Junior High School in Gifu, Japan. He previously taught at Takatomi Elementary School for three years. During that time, he realized that the quality of English classes often depends on the relationship between teachers and ALTs. This experience led to his interest in mutual respect in the classroom. He earned his Master of Arts in Education from Hyogo University of Teacher Education and his current research focuses on the use of English songs in language teaching. ย  Teamwork between ALTs and JTEs Mutual respect is key to good teamwork between the Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) and the Japanese Teacher of English (JTE). In this session, we will explore why teamwork is important and what causes JTEs to hesitate in communicating with ALTs. The speaker, a junior high school JTE, would like to share what he believes the ALT can do in many classrooms. Participants will have a chance to try some of the classroom activities.   2. Michael Sevier (Tomita High School)   Michael Sevier is a full-time teacher at the international department of Tomita High School. He has been teaching at the high school and university levels for over 10 years. In graduate school he studied second language acquisition and Minimal English Testing (MET) under Professor Maki Hideki at Gifu University and graduated from Gifu Shotoku Gakuen University.   Video Reports for High School Students In an English communication class, it can sometimes be difficult to schedule the time to give opportunities for speeches and ample feedback for every student. However, technology has provided new tools for studentsโ€™ language acquisition and growth. In this session, we explore the benefits and challenges of utilizing video reports in high school studentsโ€™ active learning. We also look at grading rubrics for video reports. Participants will engage in scenario planning and rubric-building activities. ย  Saturday, September 20, 2025 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm   Heartful Square G ใƒใƒผใƒˆใƒ•ใƒซใ‚นใ‚ฏใ‚จใ‚ขใƒผG ็ ”ไฟฎๅฎค๏ผ“๏ผ(JR GIFU Station) 1 Chome-10-23 Hashimotocho, Gifu, 500-8521   Free for JALT Members, First Time Visitors, and Students 1,000 yen for Non-Members For more information, please email: jaltnagoyaprogram@gmail.com
