Noriko (Lily) Maeda, Soichi Ota, Mayu Lindblad (Fujikawa)

This unusual session will feature interviews with three Japanese colleagues: Noriko (Lily) Maeda – Lily’s TranSupport; Soichi Ota – Tohoku Fukushi U.; and Mayu Lindblad (Fujikawa) – U. of California, Davis. We’ll follow their journeys with English from first exposure to the role the language plays in their lives today. What were the key stimuli, turning points, motivators? How did their perceptions of the role(s) language could and would play in their lives develop and change? What have their experiences and current situations taught them, and what advice might they offer? We’ll have Q&A time, as well as the opportunity to share stories and observations from our own journeys.
