Challenges and Opportunities of Teacher Efficacy

“Quality Teachers bring about Quality Students”, a quote from the Princess Maha Chakri Award, a prestigious award given to outstanding teachers in Southeast Asia who change students’ lives.
Every teacher desires to help his/her students learn, grow and meet their best potential. To realize this desire, teacher efficacy is a main key to success. Teachers themselves need to not only have self-efficacy but also techniques which enable and promote student agency. Both issues are considered as challenges and opportunities for every teacher amidst the current fast changing world which influences the way teachers teach and students learn. This is because teachers have responsibility to prepare their students to become global citizens, so that they can function and perform well anywhere in the world.
This presentation will discuss the challenges of teacher efficacy as well as opportunities which arise from the process. Best practices and innovations of outstanding teachers from 11 Southeast Asia countries (ASEAN + Timor Leste) who receive the Princess Maha Chakri Award will be shared. These are teachers who are recognized in their respective countries for having changed students’ lives and made an impact on the community. Their work reflects on teacher efficacy. The goal of this presentation is to trigger and generate ideas and practices among teachers so that they can bring about “Quality Students”.
Tinsiri Siribodhi’s areas of expertise are regional cooperation, ICT in education, teacher education, and education for sustainable development.
Before joining the Teachers’ Council of Thailand, she worked with the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) as a deputy director and UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Education.
In addition to her current work, she serves as a committee member of the Princess Maha Chakri Award Foundation (PMCA), the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Information Technology Foundation (Princess-IT Foundation), and the Working Group of the Senate on Basic Education in Thailand. She is also a teacher trainer, facilitator, and resource person.
Tinsiri holds a master’s degree in TESL (1990) and a Ph.D. in Educational Technology from the USA (1995).
