For December, Gunma JALT will try out something new: An event in which participants share about a work of literature (book, chapter, article, etc.) that has benefited and/or inspired them either professionally or personally or both. This literature can be academic (sciences, humanities, etc.), creative (fiction, poetry, etc.), journalistic (criticism, social commentary, etc.), self-improvement (health, well-being, etc.), or of any other reasonably conventional category or genre of literature.     This event will be a great opportunity to learn what other people in our industry have read and are reading. It will also serve as a forum to exchange ideas, both practical and philosophical. Hopefully this will inspire us to read more and keep up with the literature and knowledge in our field and in our society. It will also be fun and allow us to be more interactive. 

If you would like to share something, you may want to prepare a short “share sheet” which might include:

• Title, author, year, publisher, etc.
• Brief summary and/or explanation of the text.
• Explanation of why it is important or enjoyable to you.
• One or more discussion questions related to the topic.

You could bring a few copies of your “share sheet” (if you want) just in case someone is really interested in it. In order to enhance your share, it is of course OK to bring the book or article to show, but please do not make copies of works because you could run afoul of copyright laws. We can share and give basic information about the works, and that is good enough. People can find these works on their own or with help from the sharers.

Please do not feel pressure to share if you cannot think of something or bring at this moment. Anyone is welcome to join, listen to others share, and participate. Sharers will be happy if there are more participants to share with. This is an event that Gunma JALT officers are considering to hold more regularly in the future. At this point, we are at an early stage and discussing different approaches and formats. Please come, participate, enjoy, and give us your feedback.

There will be a 15-minute (or so) drink/snack/rest break midway through the event.
