For anyone interested in learning more about language assessment, we can highly recommend this excellent online course at Melbourne University. As well as topics such as writing test specifications and item writing, it covers assessment-for-learning and issues of test fairness and test consequences. You do need to have basic Excel ability, but you do not need to have a background in statistics or psychometrics, it’s aimed at classroom teachers without formal training in test development. Applications for the next course starting in July close 27 June.
