The Contrast Culture Method: Training in Understanding Cultural Values

June 8, 2019 @ 3:00 PM5:00 PM

Donna Fujimoto (Osaka Jogakuin University), Daniel Riley (Osaka Gakuin University), Fuyuko Takita Ruetenik (Hiroshima University)

The Contrast Culture Method (CCM) is an intercultural training approach which can be effectively used in many different contexts (classrooms, businesses, teacher training, etc.). In this workshop, several CCM members will explain the method and involve the audience in a session where they will be asked to observe a role play followed by interviews, and they will then be invited to engage in a deeper discussion about any values and behavior connected to real-life situations and to their actual experiences. The goal of the facilitator is NOT to lead the audience together from Point A to Point Z, but instead to encourage each audience member to make up their own minds as to what areas are important for understanding cultural values. For details, see the Hiroshima JALT homepage or newsletter. Please note the Saturday 3-5 p.m. meeting time.
