Abstract:
According to Bergey and Filipe (2018), approximately 5-7.2% of children worldwide have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and it is increasingly acknowledged to be a “lifespan disorder”. This means many ADHD adults (e.g., university students) may be unaware of their condition, choose to conceal it, or have developed coping mechanisms that allow them to navigate neurotypical environments with apparent ease. Given this prevalence, it is likely that several students in any given classroom experience challenges associated with ADHD. How can educators ensure that these students effectively engage with course materials and interact successfully with their peers? This workshop will provide an overview of ADHD and explore strategies for structuring an inclusive learning environment that supports neurodiverse students, particularly those with ADHD. Participants will engage in discussions with colleagues through breakout sessions to share experiences and best practices.
