Diversity and Inclusion Workshop

Friday, November 23rd, 1:15 PM – 4:45 PM
The workshop is now full. Thank you for your interest.
The IATEFL Inclusive Practices & SEN SIG are delighted to be working with JALT and the British Council in this training focused on building more Inclusive Classrooms. Working with language learners who have additional challenges to overcome can seem daunting, particularly if there does not seem to be much support from the organisations where we are working. However, by coming together for these kinds of events we not only extend our practical expertise but also offer each other moral support and the chance to build a network of professionals who are facing the same issues as us and share the same goals and ideals.
There will be three sessions:
Session one: Identifying learners with learning differences
What learning differences are and how to identify them
Session two: Inclusive practices
Discuss case studies from a range of English teaching contexts in Japan, from elementary school to adult senior learners
Practical strategies to use inside and outside the classroom
How teachers can adapt materials to aid inclusion
Session three: Are we all included and equal?
What inclusion means and how it can help not just learners, but everyone involved from teachers and managers to administration staff and school owners
What diversity, inclusion and equality look like in the workplace
Panel discussion Q&A
