Mind and Body Space

Alleviate your stress by using acupuncture points, play a traditional Maori game, do a self-defense tutorial, or get helpful information for Expats. This year’s Mind and Body Space has something for everyone to engage in. As JALT2020 will be online so will these sessions. Some will be pre-recorded sessions so you can enjoy at your leisure, but there will also be live sessions so you can ask the workshop leader questions. See below for more information on the sessions and when they will be available. Take a change of pace in the Mind and Body Space.
Counseling and Coaching (pre-recorded session and live session)8:00 PM – 8:30 PM, 19 Nov (Thu)
The J’Expat Network provides personal coaching and guidance counselling specifically for English speaking women in Japan. Coach/Guidance Counsellor Sarah Mulvey of the J’Expat Network will provide an introduction to goal setting as well as introduce relaxation techniques for when teachers may feel burnout setting in. Sarah will offer some tools that teachers can use at home to help them create personal and work goals in the semester ahead. For long-term teachers and newcomers as well, this session can be one step towards a more fulfilling teaching life here in Japan. Introducing “Tītītōrea,” a fun, engaging traditional Māori short-stick game, that activates hand-eye coordination, rhythm, beat and communication. This 40-minute session will demonstrate how to make the short sticks, play Tītītōrea in pairs or groups, with various passing patterns. Welcome to this fun, engaging, and safe workshop on functional self-defense, covering ways to protect yourself from common assaults before or as they happen. We will explore predator tactics, conflict communication, and K.I.S.S. self-defense problem scenarios. No prior experience required.
