Limited Time Call for Proposals – Emergency Remote Teaching and Learning
•
With a move to an online format along with this call for proposals to address Emergency Remote Teaching and Learning, JALT highly encourages educators and learners from all areas of the world to apply and send submissions. We are also working on a pricing structure with hope of encouraging professionals who may have seen value in attending a JALT conference, but were prohibited by travel, accommodation, and visa costs. Our mission is to provide opportunities for those involved in language education to meet, share, and collaborate. This call for proposals and focus on global professionals to attend the conference amplifies this. We are looking forward to your proposal.
Special Call For Presentation Proposals Now Closed.
See the PROVISIONAL schedule here.
To greater support educators during the current emergency teaching and learning environment in Japan and around the world, JALT2020 Communities of Teachers and Learners is opening a special and limited call for presentations related to foreign language Emergency Remote Teaching and Learning. The call for presentations will be open from June 15 to July 17 (11:59 PM, Japan Standard Time). By adding such sessions to our program, we hope to share research that has been conducted in the early phases of the COVID-19 outbreak and offer pedagogical support for language teachers. JALT2020 will offer a platform for exploring how the language teaching field is adapting to changes that have stemmed from the pandemic, with a strong focus on the challenges that have been posed and ways to move forward.
Session types will be limited to research-oriented presentations or practice-oriented workshops, of either 25- or 60-minutes, and will take place within the JALT2020 International Conference schedule rather than as a stand-alone event. Note that forums, roundtable exchanges, or poster presentations for this special call will not be available. We encourage applications from all teaching contexts (e.g. primary schools, JHS, HS, universities, language schools) and open this call to all JALT2020 content areas (a full list of these areas can be seen on the “Content Area” section of the submission form). See below for further explanations.
Research-Oriented Presentation (25 or 60 minutes)
This type of presentation should include a clearly indicated research topic related to Emergency Remote Teaching and Learning, a brief literature review, an overview of the research methodology and findings, and a discussion of the implications for theory and/or practice. Note: Although we are aware of the limited time-frame, completed studies will be given first priority. Research-in-progress with a clear timeline for completion will also be considered.
Practice-Oriented Workshop (25 or 60 minutes)
This type of session shows, as well as describes, a technique for teaching, testing, or other education-related matters related to Emergency Remote Teaching and Learning. This should be a hands-on professional development session that gives attendees the opportunity to learn to do something new. Note: The abstract should clarify how the materials/methods being introduced can be used to supplement, augment, or redesign tasks that are usually done in face-to-face settings and/or the particular benefits the workshop would offer language educators in an Emergency Remote Teaching and Learning setting.
Prepare a title, in English, of no more than 50 characters including spaces.
Prepare a summary (maximum of 75 words or 150 Japanese characters) and an abstract (150-250 words or 300-500 Japanese characters). The summary is for the online handbook and the abstract is for blind peer review.
Use plain text only. Do not format your document with tabs, bold text, bullet marks, or multiple line breaks between paragraphs. Any formatting will be stripped when the document is submitted to the database and sent to the reading committee for blind peer review.
Use a single space only after punctuation such as periods/full stops, not double spaces.
Note. Only one submission can be made per person (alone or as a joint submission). Presenters who have already been accepted or are on the waiting list for the JALT2020 conference and who wish to submit for this special and limited call for presentations may do so.
See the full general Call for Presentation Proposals for further guidance on making your proposal submission.
