Call for Nominations From the National Elections Committee Chair

The JALT Nominations and Elections Committee (hereafter NEC) would like to announce the special election for two national officer positions, the Auditor and Director of Public Relations, for approximately 1-year terms of office. Any member of JALT in good standing is eligible to be nominated for either position. Additionally, one may self-nominate. This is a special election, wherein the nomination period will last 21 days, starting on Saturday, October 14th and concluding on Saturday, November 4th. On that day or before, the candidates will be contacted by the NEC to confirm their willingness to stand for election.
The Auditor position includes the following duties (and possibly others);
Inspect the status of business conducted by the Board of Directors.
Inspect the status of assets of the JALT Incorporation.
Report to the General Meeting or the concerned governmental authority if, as a result of the inspection specified in the preceding items, improper conduct or important facts indicating violation of laws, regulations, or the Articles of Incorporation with regard to the business or asses of JALT is discovered.
Convene the General Meeting, if necessary, to submit a report as specified in the preceding item.
Present opinions to the Board of Directors on the status of business conducted by the Directors, and/or the status of assets of this Incorporation.
The Director of Public Relations position includes the following duties (and possibly others);
Coordinate JALT publicity nationally and internationally.
Promote relations with educational organizations, media, and industry.
Find and develop new Associate Members, Commercial Members, and institutional subscribers.
Coordinate Associate/Commercial Member relations with the Business Manager and the Director of Programs.
Liaise with the Publications Board on all matters related to publications
Chair the External Relations Committee.
All nominees who accept nomination shall provide a short biography and picture to the NEC including a) Education, b) Previous JALT experience, and c) a one paragraph (approximately 100 words) mission statement. This must be provided by Saturday, November 4th, and will be on the JALT website until the end of the JALT National Conference.
Voting will be conducted in person with physical ballots by JALT members in good standing at the JALT National Conference in Tsukuba. Voting shall commence on Friday, November 17th at 16:00 and conclude at 15:40 on Sunday, November 19th. Ballots will be counted by the NEC and results presented for ratification at the Ordinary General Meeting, starting at 17:40 on Sunday, November 19th, at the JALT International Conference. The Auditor will take office at the conclusion of the conference while the Director of Public Relations will take office on December 1, 2017 and each will serve the remainder of the current term.
If you, a member in good standing, wish to vote for one of the candidates but will not attend JALT National, you may do so by sending a handwritten letter to JALT Central Office that arrives on or before 16:00 Thursday, November 16th. Please state your name, your JALT number, your affiliation, and the name of the candidate for whom you wish to vote. Address the letter:
