We have numerous social events this year where people can socialize, catch up, network, reflect, and simply have a bit of fun. Food Court
EME
Stop by the Food Court in the Exhibition Hall for some food, beverages, or just a cup of coffee. It is conveniently located next to the EME and rest area, so you can either relax with your coffee or browse the booths after you’ve had a meal. Reasonably priced lunches will be on offer, too.
Welcome Party

Oxford University Press and JALT kick off the 2013 conference with Friday night’s Welcome Party. Whether you’re new to JALT or a veteran, be sure to drop by for drinks, light snacks, and friendly conversation.

For those that are still thirsty and/or in a celebratory mood, you can follow Kobe local Michael Wilkins to the Hobgoblin, a pub near the venue. He will make an announcement at the Welcome Party for anyone who wants to join.
Macmillan’s World Record Party
Saturday, 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM. Room 501 (5F)Invitation Only
Macmillan Language House will be holding their annual party and also attempting several Guinness World Records. There will be a combination of drink, food, and of course excitement. The party is by invitation only and has a limit of 100 people, so be sure to collect your invitation early (before Saturday, 3:00 PM). Invitations are available for collection at the Macmillan Booth in the EME.
Best of JALT Social Event
Saturday, 7:15 PM – 9:00 PM. EME
Help us celebrate the winners of the Best of JALT award for outstanding contribution made in 2012. The award ceremony and reception are once again being generously cosponsored by English Central and JALT, as well as JALT chapters and SIGs. Please join us for live music, complimentary food and beverages, and a magnificent time!

With retro-disco action from smokin’ hot DJs and surprises galore, this party promises to be the perfect way to relax and to celebrate your lifelong voyage of learning! Foodies Night Out in Kobe
Sunday, 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM
On Sunday night, Kobe local Michael Wilkins will again be leading a group to explore Kobe cuisine at a nice izakaya near the venue. The cost is ¥4,000 for all you can eat and drink. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to socialise, but it is an especially great opportunity for international visitors who want to experience some of Japan’s famous cuisine. Those interested should sign up at the Kobe JALT chapter table. There are a maximum of 20 spaces, so get in quick.
