Equipment, Internet Access, and Room Information

Basic Equipment
Each room will be equipped with tables and chairs. Larger rooms will be provided with a microphone.
All presenters should have been contacted with information regarding the equipment they have ordered for the presentation. If you did not order and pay for a projector, nothing will be supplied. Equipment orders are now closed.
Please note the following points:
This year if you plan on playing a CD or DVD, you should bring a computer that is capable of doing so.
Any other equipment, including cassette players, and computers and cables, must be provided by the presenter.
The final deadline for changes in equipment requests will be Saturday 1 October 2012. Changes to equipment requests after that date will not be possible.

To Help Make Your Presentation a Success
Congratulations on the acceptance of of your presentation for JALT2012. In order to help assure that your presentation goes smoothly, I urge you to read the following suggestions regarding using a digital projector. Technical assistants will be available, but likely very busy at the beginning of sessions. They will be focused on equipment malfunctions, so assisting with setup will be a lower priority. Please, know what to do before you come.
Digital Projector Basics
The basic idea is very simple: Test your presentation before you come to JALT2012, and have a paper backup in case things go wrong. In more detail, please confirm that you can connect your computer to a digital projector, and that it displays your presentation properly. With current Windows computers, this should be a matter of “plug and play”, but older machines may need minor adjustment. Please get assistance before you come to JALT2012 if you do not know how to make these adjustments–usually just a matter of pressing a key or two.
Sound and other Media
For sound and other media such as CD/DVD, tape, mini-disk, etc., please note that JALT no longer offers any equipment other than the digital projector for your computer display. If you wish to use other media, you will need to bring bring the required devices and cables. For example, you may wish to bring a set of small portable speakers that plug into your computer if your presentation includes sound materials.
The Mac and other Devices
As you may know already, the Mac (and other devices such as the iPad, iPod, and smartphones) require a special adapter to connect to a digital projector. This adapter is usually white and about 15 cm long. Unfortunately, there are many different types of adapters and JALT does not offer these. As with the Mac, you must bring the adapter needed to connect the device to the cable supplied with the digital projector (note; the digital projectors hav VGA connectors). For sound, you will need to bring portable speakers that connect to your device.
In Summary
The great majority of presentations should have no problems, and we sincerely hope yours is among these. We urge to confirm your equipment before you come to JALT2012, but please also bring a paper backup, just in case.

Internet
Like many conference venues in Japan, the JALT2012 site is not set up for site-wide Internet access. While wifi access will be available in the EME, we are unable to guarantee Internet access for any presenters, so ask that you ensure you prepare accordingly for your presentation.
