JALT2023 Technology in Teaching and Professional Development Workshops

Technology plays a crucial role in language education, offering a wide array of options to choose from. However, this abundance of choices can make selecting appropriate educational tools and understanding their effective implementation in classes seem overwhelming. To address this issue, JALT’s TnT Workshops have been designed to guide participants through the diverse landscape of educational technologies, focusing only on the very best options. These workshops enable participants to identify technologies that suit their specific contexts and provide valuable insights into seamlessly integrating these tools into their educational environments. The workshop presenters are experts in their respective fields, well-equipped with the necessary techniques and technologies, which they will demonstrate and share with the attendees. By emphasizing the integration of technology into language teaching practices, these workshops contribute to the advancement of language education as a whole. Participants are encouraged to bring Wi-Fi or cellular-connected devices to actively engage in the sessions.

In addition to the TnT Workshops, there are a number of Professional Development (PD) sessions that complement their technology-focused counterparts by emphasizing analog competencies and other “backend” skills. Despite technology’s increasing dominance in our industry, the importance of developing analog skills remains. These PD workshops address this need by providing attendees with the opportunity to enhance essential skills, such as data analysis, academic writing, and techniques for adapting to classroom changes. As educators, learners and researchers within the language education community, individuals are encouraged to nurture both digital and analog competencies. The PD Workshops offer additional support to the community of practice, enabling its members to thrive in diverse educational environments.

See the Conference Preview issue of the Language Teacher for full details of each workshop.

All Technology in Teaching (TnT) and Professional Development (PD) Workshops will be held on Friday Nov 24, between 1:00 – 6:30 PM.

Note that payment for the TnT and PD workshops is separate from the main registration fees.
