JALT2023 Fee-Waiver Scholarships
JALT wants to provide opportunities for JALT members and members of JALT’s institutional partners who would like to present at the JALT2023 International Conference but are unable to due to a lack of financial support. Each year, many of our presenters are able to attend because they receive financial support from their employer or are eligible for external grants, yet others cannot because they do not receive any funding. A fee-waiver scholarship was set up to offer some financial support to educators in our field.
This year JALT wants to continue to provide these opportunities for JALT members. Three scholarships will be offered. Please consider applying for a JALT2023 Fee-Waiver Scholarship if you meet the criteria below.
Scholarship Details:
Free entry to the main conference from November 25 to 27, 2023. This scholarship does not include entry into the Technology in Teaching and Profession Development Workshops (held November 24) or any other paid workshops that may be held on that day.
Please note that NPO JALT is unable to lend any assistance towards the application for visas. Specifically, the fee waiver for grant recipients does not equal sponsorship, visa or otherwise.
Eligibility:
- You must NOT have access to funding from any external source (external to JALT, such as a research budget from your employer) that could be used to cover conference fees. We rely on your honesty for this.
- You must be a JALT member or member of one of JALT’s institutional partners at the time of the application through to at least the final day of JALT2023.
- You must not have presented at an International JALT Conference in the past.
- You must have had your presentation accepted through one of three systems.
- Our regular vetting system. Only those whose presentations are accepted during the first round of acceptances are eligible for this scholarship through this option.
- An unvetted application through the JALT Chapters First-time Presenters Program.
- An unvetted application as part of a SIG Forum.
- You must submit a scholarship application by Sept 15, 2023. Applications should be submitted online.
Note: Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Use this submission form to make your application: JALT2023 Scholarship Application Form.
Although recipients will still need to cover their travel and accommodation, we hope this will help reduce financial barriers that would otherwise prevent recipients from sharing their work.
An internal vetting committee will determine who receives the scholarships and their names will be announced on the JALT2023 website by the end of September in early October.
Questions can be sent via the site contact form to the director of conference.
We wish you good luck with your application.
