JALT2022 Site Access

Access details are available on the conference venue website.

We also provide access details below. These only mention BRT buses, not regular city buses, because city buses in Fukuoka are more unpredictable when it comes to the routes they take. You can’t go by the number of the bus alone; you need to be able to read the route and destinations in Japanese on the front of the bus. BRT buses are completely predictable, though, and they have announcements and signs in English.

Airport

From Fukuoka Airport Domestic Terminal, you have two choices if you want to go directly to the venue:

  1. Take a taxi to the venue (“Kokusai Kaigijo”). It’s under 6 km, and probably costs about 2,000 yen. If you opt for the faster route via the Urban Expressway, there’s a 630 yen fee.
  2. Take the subway from the Airport floor B2 (basement 2nd level down) to Hakata Station (260 yen; 2 stops). See Subway (Hakata Station) below.

Hakata Station

Subway (Hakata Station)

Look for the signs that say “Exit Central Ticket Gate 出口(中央改札口)”. Avoid “Exit Hakata Ticket Gate 出口(博多改札口)” because that way takes you to the far side of the station. See “Hakata Station (Ground floor level)” below.

Shinkansen (Bullet Train)

Get off at Hakata Station, and follow the signs to exit. After you pass through the ticket wicket, you’ll probably need to turn left to head toward the “Hakata Gate” — see Hakata Station (Ground floor level) below.

JR Train

Get off at Hakata Station, and follow the signs to exit. You’ll be in the middle of Hakata Station. See Hakata Station (Ground floor level) below.

Bus to Hakata Bus Terminal

The bus terminal is located next to Hakata Station, north of the station on the west side of the tracks. So walk towards the station and you’ll be on the “Hakata Gate (West)” side. See Hakata Station (Ground floor level) below.

Hakata Station (Ground floor level)

Go out the exits on the west side of the station. Look for “Hakata Gate (West) 博多口(西)” or “West x 西x出口”. The East side is called “Chikushiguchi 筑紫口” and it’s the wrong side.

After you exit the Hakata Gate (West), you have three options:

  1. Go to the taxi stand and take a taxi to “Kokusai Kaigijo”
  2. Walk (straight line, 2.3 km) https://goo.gl/maps/pqpUJSoaEzUA11Mk6
  3. Cross the street to Bus Stop F and get on the double-length yellow BRT busses (https://goo.gl/maps/QF6JxS14at1EaW9h9). The bus will stop right in front of the venue. The venue bus stop name on the English sign inside the bus is “Kokusai Kaigijo / Sun Palace” and outside, it’s all in English: “Fukuoka International Congress Center / Sun Palace”. (Watch our BRT video for visuals.)

Nishitetsu Train

Nishitetsu Train does not go to Hakata Station. It goes to Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station, in Tenjin. You have three good choices:

  1. Take a taxi to the venue (“Kokusai Kaigijo”). It’s 2.1 km.
  2. Walk 2.1 km. https://goo.gl/maps/cZ4TZEJiH47AoNx39
  3. Take the BRT bus. See the Tenjin section below.
  4. Taking a subway to Hakata is not a good option, because you’ll be essentially the same distance away from the venue.

Tenjin

Tenjin Subway Station

After you go through the ticket wicket, go to the central exit to “Tenjin Chikagai”, a long, underground shopping area. Take Exit 4 West (西4) to be closest to the BRT bus stop (see “In Tenjin”, option 3 below).

In Tenjin

In Tenjin, you have three good choices:

  1. Take a taxi to the venue (Kokusai Kaigijo). It’s 2.1 km.
  2. Walk 2.1 km. https://goo.gl/maps/cZ4TZEJiH47AoNx39
  3. Take the yellow, double-length BRT bus from Tenjin Solaria Stage Bus Stop 2A. https://goo.gl/maps/4TUzs7JV4RLFfNfW8 The bus will stop right in front of the venue. The venue bus stop name on the English sign inside the bus is “Kokusai Kaigijo / Sun Palace” and outside, it’s all in English: “Fukuoka International Congress Center / Sun Palace”.
  4. Taking a subway to Hakata is not a good option, because you’ll be essentially the same distance away from the venue.

Other stations along the Airport (Kuko) line

If you want to avoid taxis, then you can take a subway to either Tenjin or Hakata.

  1. Walking from Tenjin Subway Station is just 1.9 km https://goo.gl/maps/MjMzkenvPLzJJYjn9 Walking from Hakata station is a bit further: https://goo.gl/maps/pqpUJSoaEzUA11Mk6
  2. Both Tenjin and Hakata Subway Stations are close to a BRT bus stop. For Hakata, see the Hakata Station (Ground floor level) section above. For Tenjin, see the Tenjin Station section above.

Hakozaki Subway Line

Go to Gofukumachi Station. From here, you have two choices:

  1. Walk. It’s 1 km https://goo.gl/maps/8JFNBcRfuRU4XPM46
  2. Bus: Get the yellow, double-length BRT bus from Bus Stop K (not J) https://goo.gl/maps/haShjXogZLnTAsV76. It will cost 190 yen.

Nanakuma Subway Line

Get off at the Watanabe Dori Station exit 2. Walk around the corner to Sun Selco (around the corner from Hotel New Otani). In front of Sun Selco is Watanabe Dori bus stop C https://goo.gl/maps/9tgFfnjV7GKdHZW69 .  Get the yellow, double-length BRT bus. The bus will stop right in front of the venue. The venue bus stop name on the English sign inside the bus is “Kokusai Kaigijo / Sun Palace” and outside, it’s all in English: “Fukuoka International Congress Center / Sun Palace”.
