Panel Discussion for Careers in Japan Focused on ALTs

Hokuriku-JALT presents our first event of the year, on April 19th. We will have a panel of three speakers who will engage in life after being an ALT. What are the options, opportunities, and pitfalls? Come join us for a great discussion. Here are the bios of our distinguished panel:

Dale Jeffery:
Dale Jeffery is a PhD candidate at the University of the West Indies. He currently works at Fukui University of Technology as an Assistant Professor in Japan, and is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), bringing expertise in project planning and implementation to educational and research initiatives. He has presented research on traditional and AI-driven translation sources in language learning at international conferences.

Dom Abuan:
Dom is from the Philippines and served as a high school JET Programme ALT for five years from 2018, teaching at both a large town school and a small mountain village school. During the pandemic starting in 2020, he worked to support JET participants and coordinating with local stakeholders for professional development for ALTs. He holds a Masterโ€™s degree in Construction Management and is currently a Learning Mentor at the International College of Technology, Kanazawa.

Shana Wolff:
Shana Wolff is an Assistant Professor of Foreign Language at Fukui University of Technology. Shana is a graduate of the United Graduate School of Professional Development of Teachers at University of Fukui. Her experience as a foreign language educator spans eight years in Japan ranging from the junior high school to university level. Shana also holds a M.S. of Geoscience from the University of Arizona and a B.S. of Geology from the University of Wyoming. Ms. Wolff makes language education approachable, fun and practical to real-world application.
