JALT 2026 Featured Speakers Workshop & Research Presentation: โThe New Auto-Peerโ

We are pleased to announce a featured presentation at JALT 2026 in Nagoya by Dr. Theron Muller (Waseda University), Dr. Philip McCarthy (American University of Sharjah), and Prof. Jerry Talandis Jr. (University of Toyama).
Their collaborative project, The New Auto-Peer, explores how generative AI can support automated writing evaluation and student feedback in language education. Drawing on advances in GenAI and natural language processing, the presenters will introduce updated Auto-Peer systems designed to provide ethical, research-informed writing support while encouraging student responsibility and revision skills.
The session includes both a workshop presentation and a research presentation:
- Workshop Presentation: The New Auto-Peer: Free Automated Writing Evaluation
Participants will explore how the Auto-Peer system can be used to support English language learners through automated feedback and revision suggestions. - Research Presentation: The New Auto-Peer: Leveraging GenAI in Automated Feedback
The presenters will share findings from a Japan-based study examining how GenAI-generated feedback influences student writing, cohesion, and revision practices.
This session will be of interest to educators, researchers, and practitioners interested in AI-assisted language learning, writing, and ethical applications of generative AI.
