On February 17th, Nagano JALT hosted Linfeng Wang as she gave a presentation an exciting new government initiate for career development for ALTs. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) realizes the importance of having teachers improve their skill and understanding of education. Previously, this would mean teachers would have to leave work to undertake a post graduate course. This however creates all sorts of problems such as a school losing a teacher, a disconnect from theory and practice, and the financial burden of leaving work. Under new initiatives, the MEXT sees the benefit of encouraging teachers to study while working. Not only is this beneficial for the teachers themselves but also for coworkers in sharing new knowledge and ideas.
The second part of Linfeng’s presentation explained her monthly cafe’ where HRTs, JTEs and ALTs get together on zoom to discus topics related to language education. You can find out more about the monthly events in the newsletter below.
