In this talk, Scott Lockman will introduce free web-based tools and a process for using those tools that will allow students and teachers to create and share audio with common smart phone and cell phone technology. Mobile audio recording technology makes it easy for language teachers to prepare original listening materials for self-directed students to download and listen to in their own time. Similarly, it also provides a way for students to create and share their own recordings for the instructor, classmates or a wider audience on the web. During the presentation, Scott will provide a summary and evaluation of several of the various free web-based tools and free mobile applications for recording and distributing audio, demonstrate how to set up and maintain the necessary accounts, and produce an actual demonstration transmission with audience members. Time allowing, he will also try to introduce his current self-reflection project, Slices of Life (http://scottlo.com), which he hopes to publish as a free eBook for teachers interested in using audio for self-reflection.
