What's the Teacher Education SIG?

A network of foreign language instructors dedicated to becoming better teachers and helping others teach more effectively, the Teacher Education SIG has been active since 1993. Its members teach at universities, high schools, and language centres both in Japan and other countries and network in three ways:
  • Via our newsletter which examines education and teacher development issues, ideas, and theories.

  • Via conferences, weekend workshops, and seminars in Japan.

  • Through this website and email discussions.

Focus

This group focuses on two basic areas:

TRAINING
helping teachers prepare for new assignments by:
TEACHER
DEVELOPMENT
helping teachers develop as life-long learners by:
training and/or supervising fellow language teachers academic writing projects
conducting RSA certificate courses reflective drama groups
teaching Certificate of Oral Language Teaching courses peer observation and feedback
conducting neuro-linguistic programming courses sharing ideas via email and our newsletter

We strive to maintain open and flexible channels of communication so that all members may participate in the SIG's decision making process. As volunteers, we value working creatively together in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect.
