Steve Cornwell

Professor, Department of International & English Interdisciplinary Studies, Osaka Jogakuin College

Steve Cornwell arrived in Japan in the fall of 1992 after finishing graduate school at S.I.T. in Vermont, and he promptly attended his first JALT conference. He had come to teach at the Language Institute of Japan’s (LIOJ) residential business English program in Odawara. Although Steve had only planned to teach in Japan for two or three years before moving on, 18 years later he is still enjoying life in Japan. He has been teaching at Osaka Jogakuin College ever since moving to Osaka after the Hanshin earthquake in 1995. When not working, Steve enjoys going to movies, eating ethnic food, traveling, and going to movies—he really likes movies. Recently, he has started playing badminton and studying Korean—but not at the same time. His current research/academic interests include identity and language learning, helping teachers get started with publishing, and teacher development. His JALT background includes...
