list of presentations:

- David Stephens – One Language Card Set, Several Game Variations

Using language card activities is a fun and effective way to practice learning a language. The presenter will explain and demonstrate how one set of homemade language cards can be used to practice different grammar points in either partners or groups. The demonstration will consist of comparatives and superlatives for Jr. High students.

- Gregg McNabb - How to Publish Materials

In this My Share the presenter will explain and demonstrate how you can do your own, legitimate, self-publishing on demand.

- Chris Tebbe – Teaching Vocabulary

The presenter will briefly outline some components of vocabulary that should be studied (stress, syllable patterns, parts of speech, collocations and word families). Afterwards, he will introduce several vocabulary activities that can be used in the classroom and out of the classroom. Inspired by I.S.P. Nation and David Barker as well as others.

- Dan Frost - A New Approach to Teaching Junior High School Students

How can we help Japanese junior high school students build a foundation for understanding English which is based on English itself, and not on translation? At key points of their learning honest comparisons can be made which show fundamental differences in the way the two languages work. One example is the word "it." If students can see the larger patterns of English as a language system, they will be able to look to them for support, building an understanding of meaning and how to express it without translating from their own language.

- Sue Sullivan – What’s in a Name?

Short for time or ideas, or have a spare five minutes at the end of the class? Alternatively, want to introduce a new topic or expand upon an existing one? Do you want to introduce yourself, or have the students introduce themselves to each other? How about students participating in an ongoing discussion class based solely upon ideas generated from them? Has the photocopier broken down? Do you have no text book, no copies, no materials to speak of? This quick exercise can be carried with you, as long as you have a surface to write upon, or a good memory. It can be used as a stop-gap, or as a schemata kicker; a useful exercise for the prepared and the unprepared alike.

- Jon Dujmovich - Chris & Jon's Pecha Kucha Presentations PT. 1

What is Pecha Kucha? The presenter will give an overview of what Pecha Kucha presentations are all about while presenting in the P.K. style that has become a hit around the world.

- Chris Knapp - Chris & Jon's Pecha Kucha Presentations PT. 2

This Pecha Kucha presentation is in the context of the teacher "Walking the Talk" in the classroom by giving a presentation in a second language, in this case Japanese.

- Zane Ritchie – An Example of Project-based Teaching Within the Classroom

Project-based teaching can help students move away from rote learning and memorization to providing more challenging, complex work; having an interdisciplinary, rather than departmentalized focus; and encouraging cooperative learning (Anderman & Midgley, 1998; Lumsden, 1994). This presentation will discuss a successful example of a project and samples of students' output.

- Colin Verstrepen – Health Care Options for ALTS

This presenter will lead a discussion regarding health care options for private Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) and share his personal experience joining the Shakai Hoken system.

- Adam Jenkins - Forgot the Title

How are memories formed? How can I improve my memory? What can neuroscience contribute to the EFL classroom? Come and find out!!
