Okinawa JALT holds language learning/teaching-related presentations and/or workshops, generally on the 3rd Saturday of each month at Meio University Research Center(northern area) and the 3rd Sunday of each month at Okinawa Christian College/University(southern area),in most months except the JALT conference month (Oct or Nov). In July/August we hold our annual family BBQ beach party/picnic and in December our annual family Christmas brunch/bonenkai. Both these events are open to the public and families/spouses/children of members.
We currently have members from Okinawa, Japan, South Africa, the U.K., the U.S.A. and Canada. We range in age from our 20s to our 70s! Our members are elementary/junior/senior high school teachers, university faculty (full and part time), language school owners and teachers and individuals who are just interested in language teaching topics or English language practice because most presentations are given in English.
In addition to the information-packed JALT publication, The Language Teacher, which all members receive, we publish a local monthly newsletter, distributed at the meetings, including reviews of previous presentations, information about current and future presentations and notes about national and international events.
We welcome all individuals who are interested in language learning/teaching. We are a diverse, fascinating and fun group. Check us out!
