Shizuoka JALT Chapter

Shizuoka JALT usually meets on the 3rd Sunday of the month.

The next meeting for the Shizuoka Chapter is on Sunday, May 25th, 2008 from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM.

Elementary school English education: What can be done?

Machiko Fujiwara (Seigakuin University), Chizuko Aiba (Tokyo Denki University), and Brian Byrd (Seigakuin University)

The presenters have been working together in the field of elementary school English for more than 20 years. Seeking "the development of Japanese who can use English," we have used our original methods for teaching children in kindergartens, private and public elementary schools, and language schools. We will introduce these methods and our actual teaching practice, and present the results we have seen in teaching children.

Training ears for familiarity with natural speed and rhythm of English

Practicing English conversation through chants, games, and Japanese customs

Teaching writing: From ABC to writing about me

Teaching reading using sight word readers

Linking with junior high English: grammar through conversation

The meeting is at Kyouiku Kaikan (across from Shin-Shizuoka) in the basement (5-minute walk north from JR station).
Cost for non-JALT members: 1000 yen; for JALT members: free
