This presentation will demonstrate how to introduce an entrepreneurship in EMI classes for Economics and Business majors, helping students to better understand how an entrepreneurial mindset can help them imagine their future careers. Participants will be asked to develop their own definition of entrepreneurship and classify it under the following headings: skills/mindsets, teachable/discoverable, hard skills/soft skills. We will then look at definitions of entrepreneurship from around the world, along with the definitions from the stated policy of the Japanese Ministry of Education. Next, we will take a look the frameworks of International Posture (Nakata, 1995) and Possible Selves (Markus and Nurius, 1986) that provide guideposts for entrepreneurial education. On the practical side, I will demonstrate how narratives delivered in the form of short commercials can be used in the classroom to encourage students to view themselves as business people both currently and in the future. Engaging with such narratives helps students apply principles already learned about global business and professional skills, including soft skills. By identifying with stories of success, students imagine what it takes to be a real business person by empathizing with the character, drawing timelines, personalizing their own needs and conceptualizing what they may need to be successful. Finally, we will have a spirited discussion about what the role of the EMI teacher is in the CLIL classroom and what forms of content we as teachers should be providing our students.
