JALT Junior sessions will be taking place in rooms 301-304 on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th.
The JALT Teaching Children SIG will host the 10th JALT Junior, a satellite conference focusing on teaching children and training teachers to teach children. For the 3rd year we will be teaming up with the Junior and Senior High School (JSHS) SIG. We have a great lineup of sessions including practical workshops, demonstrations, research reports, colloquia, and a panel discussion. This year again, one of the hot topics will be compulsory English in Japanese elementary schools.
Speaking of change, on Sat Nov 19 from 5:00 to 6:30, the Junior and Senior High School Interest Group (JSHS SIG) proudly presents its annual forum. In this forum the JSHS SIG continues the momentum created by the launching of its JSHS Teacher Development Project, “Changing Together,” this past June. Participants of this Teacher Development Project will discuss some of the changes that they have made in their classrooms. There will be several short presentations with ample opportunities for discussion. Come and exchange ideas! JALT Junior 2011 will be a great place for teachers of children and young adults to learn, network, and share. We look forward to seeing you there!
Note:
The Pre-conference handbook states that JALT Junior will be providing a play area/childcare space. However, this year the space is not available. There is a nursing and nappy changing area near the women's restroom on the 2nd floor of the Central Building. However, if you are bringing children there is plenty of outdoor courtyard areas and walkways. Yoyogi Park is also nearby. Also note: the National Youth Memorial web page and handbook may have a children's space listed but this is not related to JALT nor the JALT Conference.
