In this presentation, I will talk about the recent trends in English educational reform being considered in Japan. The changes as proposed by the government are based on the recent 'inward-looking' tendencies seen among the young people, who do not want to go abroad to either study or work, and the lack of confidence as well as motivation to learn foreign languages--including English.
