This presentation is somewhat similar to the presentation Changing the Way the World Learns English with National Geographic, which was presented by Kojima先生 as part of the Okinawa JALT 31st Anniversary All-Okinawa Language Educators' Day Mini-Conference and Materials Exposition held on November 26th, 2011.
In the past twenty years, Academic English classes have shifted their focus more towards communicative learning. This often means standard ESL methodology with a focus on academic vocabulary. However, this is not enough to prepare students for the realities of university life and their future careers.
In this meeting, we will present and discuss the application of Conversation Analysis (Sacks, Schegloff, & Jefferson, 1974) to language classroom practices. Conversation Analysis is fast becoming an important research method in many areas, including applied linguistics and language education.

Using group dynamics as an umbrella term for overlapping literatures on community, cooperative, and collaborative practices, Tim Murphy will introduce the concept of PCOIz which might help teachers to better conceptualize their classes and the time-frame influences on their students.
The presenter, Junko Tsukeyama will introduce us to the methods she has employed the past several years to establish the L.L.C at Meio University and to continually expand and improve its services, including her training of student peer tutors, the CRLA projects, etc.
Prof. Nashiro has had extensive training and experience in "English through Music" and many methods of interpretation (including similtaneous, relay etc) and has been successfully running his own language school for nearly two decades. His highly motivating activities used at his school create in his young students both a love for and fluency in English.
Mastering a new language is a challenge. Most students are very comfortable with the passive skills but less comfortable with active skills. Traditional language teaching methods relied heavily on passive skills. Today our challenge as language teachers is to create a more active environment in our classrooms to encourage student participation and give them tools to learn independently.
The presenter is Taeko Iha, English teacher at Kagei Elementary School in Kin. She will share her findings from research undertaken by her in the classes she taught while completing her MA in TESOL. She will give a bilingual presentation.
